How to set up Windows Live Writer (WLW) for wordpress blog

Windows Live Writer, the blogging tool made by Microsoft Corporation may not be a new thing to bloggers who have been used to use it including me who have felt its benefits. Since I have known and used the Windows Live Writer, I have never published an article in dashboard of blogger.com anymore because I have felt the ease of using it to write a post even if I am offline.

For those who have not yet known about Windows Live Writer can read it at Windows Live Writer and you can read about how to set it up at Windows Live Writer setting.

At this opportunity, I would like to write a tutorial about how to set up Windows Live Writer for wordpress blog based on my personal experience that had experienced the failure in setting wordpress blog to Windows Live Writer (WLW).

One day when I set one of Kang Rohman wordpress blog to WLW, this process failed with the caption, as shown in screenshot below:

error-connecting-to-blog

That problem had made me confused at that time, because when I set the blogger.com blogs, I never experienced such problem. When I examined the error notice, I found that the cause of the error is the XML-RPC in Kang Rohman’s blog is not active. When I enabled the XML-RPC in Writing setting in Kang Rohman’s Blog, then I succeeded to set Kang Rohman’s blog to Windows Live Writer.

For more clear, follow the steps I have done:

  1. Before you set the wordpress blog to WLW be sure that XML- RPC of wordpress blog is active. You can check this out by logging in to your account through http://yourdomainname.xxx/wp-login.php. Find the Setting then choose Writing, at Remote Publishing, make sure that XML-RPC is marked. If not, please check the small box. Do not forget to save the change by clicking the button Save Changes.
    Enable-XML-RPC
  2. Now please open the tool of Windows Live Writer, at the menu bar, find the Blogs menu then Add blog account. Click the radio button on other blog service, at the field of web address of your blog, fill in your blog URL, on Username, type the name that is used in your wordpress blog, and fill in your password. To continue, click next, and the setting process will run.
    Blogs-Account
    other-blog-service
    add-a-blog-account
    progress
  3. If the process is complete, a dialog box will appear to state that your wordpress blog has been successfully added to WLW. Then click Finish.
    Finish
  4. Done

I hope that what I have written will be useful for you.
