Over a decade ago when I decided to work online from home, too many times I found myself getting caught up in the hype of the next big thing. Even though I tried to be cautious, I still fell for way too many "too good to be true" opportunities. After a while I began to realize that the mistakes I made were not unusual for newbies like me. So if you are thinking about taking that step to work online from home let me share with you a few things that I have learned from my past mistakes.
1. Avoid flooding your inbox with all the "6 figure income" promises, special offers and freebies. They will distract you, confuse you, sap a lot of valuable energy, and take you away from the steps you should be focusing on to build your business.
And many of these "easy" blueprints don’t work unless you have major money to invest up front, or are already a brilliant entrepreneur capable of making a high-flying living without the net. In which case, you probably wouldn’t be a work at home mom " you would be an executive with a nanny!
2. You should also watch what spend on "inexpensive" offers. These small amounts can really add up after a while, and many times you’re keen to buy because some copywriter has been paid a lot of money to "speak directly" to you, and convince you that you need to act now and you need to act fast!
Here is something that you should be aware of: That inexpensive report you just paid for will probably only give you a small piece of the puzzle. You may need to subscribe to some monthly membership and purchase more products, to get all the information you need and then there will be another level you need and another level (Its called a "marketing funnel." If you’re not yet familiar with the term look it up on any search engine.)
3. If you want to work online from home make sure you don’t spend all your time hanging out on the WAHM forums. Don’t get me wrong, WAHM forums can be a great source of information and support however, many women who wish to work online from home get a bit too comfortable hanging out on the forums instead of building a business.
Tip: Try going to any search engine and typing in "direct response marketing". You will get a much more objective view of all the typical internet marketing terms and strategies.
These are just three tips to help you get started in your venture to work online from home. Of course there is much more to it than this but these tips should help you get started. The most successful women who work online from home and promote themselves as successful WAHMs do earn a competitive living (sometimes even a 6-figure one) " but its not from labeling and limiting themselves. They are businesswomen first.
